Dental Crowns & Bridges in London

What is a crown?

Crowns are an ideal way to repair teeth that have been broken, or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling.

A crown could be used for a number of other reasons, for example:

  • You may have a discolored filling and would like to improve the appearance of the tooth.
  • You may have had a root filling and need a crown to protect what is left of the tooth.
  • It may help to hold a bridge or denture firmly in place.

How is a crown prepared?

The procedure usually takes two visits. During your first appointment, your original tooth is prepared, and then an impression would be taken and sent to a specialist laboratory where your new crown is handcrafted by expert technicians.

What will happen between visits?

A temporary crown will be made so that you can use the tooth while you wait for the crown to be made. This crown may be more noticeable but is only temporary.

And finally the newly prepared crown is then bonded into position during your second visit with a special adhesive.

How long do crowns last?

Crowns should last several years, but this is dependent on you looking after them well. You should care for your crowned tooth in exactly the same way as other natural teeth. We choose only the finest materials at Aldgate House and expect crowns to last At least 5-10 years when they are well cared for.
